A Day ‘four’ Giving: ECE Architecture & Chestnut Tree House Charity Cricket Event

On a rainy day in September, ECE Architecture hosted their 5th annual Charity Cricket event in collaboration with ECE Planning. Despite the weather, the energy and generosity on the field were inspiring. The event raised nearly £7,400 for Chestnut Tree House, a children’s hospice in Sussex that provides specialist palliative care to children with life-limiting conditions.

Photography and Video: A Collaborative Shoot

I had the privilege of covering this event with a half-day shoot that included both video and photography. Offering these services together ensured ECE had cohesive storytelling across all media. Handling both photography and videography, ensured pre- and post-production align effortlessly, creating a unified aesthetic.

For ECE Architecture, we captured the day in multiple aspect ratios, ready for use across platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, and websites. This flexibility ensures their message resonates across all channels, with both landscape and vertical formats maximising their companies audience engagement.

Overcoming Challenges on the Day

Wet weather brought some logistical hurdles. With rain-drenched equipment and attendees huddled together under cover, capturing clean audio was tricky. The tighter spaces created more background noise, making interviews more challenging to film.

The overcast conditions also resulted in washed-out colours and low contrast, which required adjustments both on-site and during post-production. Additionally, many participants were understandably not feeling their best, uncomfortable on camera due to the wet weather. All of these factors had to be carefully managed to ensure both the logistics and visuals met the highest possible standard.

Despite the challenges, I’m proud of how the final result reflects the spirit of the event—bringing people together for a great cause, rain or shine.

Highlights from the Day

The cricket event was a fantastic gathering of local businesses and supporters, proving once again that a strong network can drive meaningful change. Thakeham emerged victorious in a thrilling yet soaking wet final against Bouygues Construction, with smiles and camaraderie all around, rain or shine. We thank Thakeham for their enthusiam and sportsman ship! (even if they did soak us in bubbly!) They were a great sport.

Why It Matters

Working on projects like this lets me showcase the power of media in connecting businesses with important causes. It’s not just about capturing the day—it’s about the telling of a story and how it inspires action. Through thoughtful interviews, candid photography, and dynamic video highlights, the event's spirit and purpose come alive.
