Do you support those who film their own video?

approximately a 3 minute read

All the time.

Whether you're shooting on a mobile device or a high-end camera, I can help you navigate common pitfalls and get the most from your equipment. I also offer guidance to support your process and create a final product you can be proud of. With over 15 years of professional experience in dance, performance, and creative arts, I'm also a musician, composer, technical production manager and technician, skilled in lighting design, sound design, and music production. My video and photography practice goes beyond the camera, offering a holistic approach to support you at any stage of your project.

Colour Grading

A few scenarios to illustrate: If you've filmed an event, perhaps a performance or product demo, I can tailor a custom colour grade to bring out the hidden tones and details in your footage, providing you with a professionally polished video that elevates your project.

Editing

Editing is a personal touch, it's a signature that transforms raw footage into your story. If you've seen mike b designs style and like the way we approach an edit, then I'm excited to collaborate with you on editing your footage. I'll approach your project with care, ensuring it reflects your vision. Nowadays, audiences expect video in various formats which also helps maximise the video's potential for marketing. If you have landscape footage that would benefit from having a version in portrait, I can reframe it while keeping the focus and flow intact.

Sound

If you've recorded audio yourself, maybe on a phone or camera, it can often sound a bit flat, uneven, or include unwanted background sounds. I can clean it up by adjusting the clarity, smoothing out the volume, and giving your mix more space and depth. Whether it's dialogue, ambient sound, or music, I'll work with you to make sure it sounds clean and professional. I can even help remix music to better suit your edit. Or, if you're at the start of your process and you'd like advice on recording sound in the first place, I can guide you on how to get the best results with the gear you already have.

Lighting

While most of this FAQ focuses on post-production, lighting is something where a bit of advice before the shoot can make a big difference and save you a lot of time. I’m always happy to help you get the best out of the equipment you have to hand, even before you hit record. Once you're in post-production, lighting and colour are controlled through reframing and colour grading, so getting it right on the day makes a big difference to the final result.

Finally

Before I waffle on... if you're unsure where to start, or need a sounding board during pre-production, I'm always happy to chat things through.
