People Finding Consultancy Wins Start-Up of the Year 2024!

Recruitment, Recognition, and a Dash of Kitchen Envy

There are few things as satisfying in life as witnessing a deserving person receive an accolade, and Samantha Pewsey’s recent triumph at the Worthing and Adur Business Awards was no exception. Her company, People Finding Consultancy, took home the coveted Start-Up of the Year 2024 award – and rightly so. Sam's success sent ripples of excitement through the mike b designs office, where all involved swapped excited WhatsApp emojis like a bunch of 7-year-olds on an iPad.

This moment also felt like validation – not just for Sam but for our shared belief that good storytelling, particularly in the form of an engaging and professional video, can spark business growth. It seems we’re onto something, and what better proof than seeing a client’s business recognised as exemplary in its field?

From WIN to Winning

Sam and I first crossed paths at WIN (Worthing Independent Networking) and have stayed in touch ever since – proof that networking, despite its reputation, can occasionally lead to something less cringe-inducing than awkward small talk over stale pastries. (If you are anything like me, business is rarely mentioned...) When Sam approached me for a video, her brief suggested something professional yet personable to encapsulate her business ethos. As someone in recruitment, she recognised the importance of not just describing her work but demonstrating it.

Enter Mark from The Kitchen Store, whose willingness to play the part of an ideal client gave us a golden opportunity. Filming Sam’s interactions with Mark revealed her natural charisma, wit, and ability to connect – qualities that recruitment slogans rarely manage to convey but are, in her case, utterly authentic.

The Art of Capturing Intangibles

Filming an “about me” video is deceptively challenging. It’s not just about what someone does; it’s about capturing the effect of what they do. You don't buy a car just because it's fast; you have to see the emotion in feeling the speed. In Sam’s case, that meant demonstrating how her recruitment service gives businesses the gift of time – time to thrive, innovate, and generally avoid the dreaded rabbit hole of sifting through CVs.

The challenge was compounded by time constraints and Sam’s understandable nerves. Talking about oneself on camera is notoriously tricky – even more so when you’re trying to strike the perfect balance between corporate credibility and your own whimsical personality. Sam’s initial attempts leaned a little too much towards the former. So, we took breaks, shared a laugh, and gave her space to relax. After all, business, like life, is infinitely better when approached with a sense of fun.

The result? A polished video that not only reflects Sam’s professionalism but also her humanity. It’s a testament to her passion for people – or, as she eloquently puts it, “They’re fascinating.”

Kitchen Showrooms and Recruitment Wisdom

The video shoot at The Kitchen Store in Hove was as much a visual feast as it was a professional endeavour. If you’re prone to kitchen envy, their showrooms in Hove, Guildford, and Horsham are a delight – though you may leave feeling your own kitchen could use a little TLC. Meanwhile, Mark Wood-Davies provided glowing feedback about Sam’s recruitment services, proving that her work isn’t just about finding people – it’s about finding the right people.

The Humble Brilliance of Success

Samantha’s win at the awards wasn’t just a reflection of her hard work; it was a moment of well-deserved recognition for her ethos of ethical recruitment. Watching her delight at the ceremony – nervous fidgeting and all – was as heartwarming as it was entertaining. It’s rare to see someone’s passion shine through so clearly, and it’s a privilege to have been part of her journey.

So, here’s to Sam, People Finding Consultancy, and the future of recruitment done right. And if you’re considering a new kitchen, might I suggest a visit to The Kitchen Store? Who knows – you might even bump into someone filming their next big success story.
