Riding Shotgun with Worthing Water Sports

Worthing Water Sports are a Worthing-based company who are expanding - they're growing well, they have quite a following online and they are slowly becoming more and more of a hub of useful information and product reviews. This is something that Sam, the owner, is deliberately pushing forwards with, helping them become that trustworthy place for people to get information – and to spend time on his website, at the end of the day. There are products he wants to sell as well, of course…

Entasi: Rage against the Machine.

On this shoot, I was reminded of how instrumental a videographer and, perhaps more specifically, an editor can be in terms of selling a product and creating a narrative. Dance tells a story by itself, of course, but with this latest project by Entasi, the narrative wasn’t linear – here, the choreography was modular, more like chapters. Chapters from comparable but contrasting stories, sometimes! And when you’re creating a one minute video of the entire thing… where do you start?

3Fall Dance Company: Sink or Swim

With KJ Mortimer at the helm as choreographer, 3Fall dance are back with their iconic Spring Tour featuring Sink or Swim. 3Fall Dance are a dance company from Chichester University, showcasing the phenomenal talents of the third-year dance students. […] One of my favourite things about what I do are the ‘what if’ moments in pre-production; when I talk to the client and learn about the brief and the creative juices start to flow.

The Bus Shelter Dorset: Pride and Prejudice... Kind of.

If someone told you that they’d been injecting heroin since the age of fourteen, what would you think of them?

Would it make a difference whether they were a family member, or a close friend – someone well known to you – or a relative stranger? Would it depend on whether you knew that this was out of character or not? Do we create exceptions, leeway, and reason it all away if it’s the right kind of person telling us this story? Our mother, our brother, our best friend, perhaps. The ‘surely not’s of society.

Look up - at The Royal Pavilion

Picture this: it’s a drizzly Thursday, late October. I’m knee-deep in editing recent projects, which have been loads of fun, but I am wondering if I’ll ever feel the sun on my face again, chained to the desk as I am this week. But then – a call. It’s out of the blue, it’s someone I don’t know, and it turns out to be my ticket out of the office!

I’d been referred to Brighton & Hove Museums…

Flow, Shadows, and Filming

Filming dance is about watching carefully, knowing when to move, when to hold back, and how to let the camera serve the choreography by choosing where to position your audience. When I was invited to film Kay Crook’s new work for mapdance ahead of their touring season, the aim was to create…

I’m Doing Something Slightly Different. Dogs.

When Stuart, the managing director of ECE Architecture, paused mid-sentence and said, “I’m doing something slightly different, away from the world of architecture… dogs” I couldn't help but chuckle. […] he'd managed to sum it up in a four-letters, dogs... a blunt loss of words that of recognised this is a new world…

Like coming home: photographing mapdance

Luke Brown, a long standing great friend, who also serves as the rehearsal director for the 2024-25 season, brought an electrifying energy to the studio, and his support was instrumental throughout the day. His ability to bring out the best in the dancers made my role that much easier—and more inspiring. Plus we had an amazing time, who said work had to be a slog?!

React Events: Capturing Live Music Performances

Live entertainment is an art in itself, and showcasing it through video requires more than just technical skill – it demands empathy, collaboration, and a deep understanding of the performers’ and audience’s needs. (As the night progresses, it can also include first aid and running away from stampeding 'mega fans' – but fortunately, not on this occasion.)
